Safeguarding
Bearing works with students, including students under the age of eighteen. Safeguarding governs how we design our programmes, who we allow to deliver them, and how we behave in every session.
Our commitments

Every facilitator holds a current enhanced DBS check obtained through a DBS umbrella body.

Every facilitator completes safeguarding training and is assessed before delivering independently.

A named Designated Safeguarding Lead holds responsibility for safeguarding across all Bearing delivery.

Sessions are delivered in groups. Facilitators do not work one-to-one with a student without a second adult present.

Physical content is taught with clear consent, clear boundaries, and the option for a student to step out at any point.

The mental health session is delivered by an instructor qualified in First Aid for Mental Health. Any disclosure is handled sensitively, recorded, and escalated to the Designated Safeguarding Lead — we support and signpost, we do not counsel.

Concerns are recorded and escalated to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and, where appropriate, to the partner institution and statutory services.
