Conflict & Personal Safety

One day. Avoid, de-escalate, and if it comes to it, get away.

Most situations that go wrong can be seen coming, talked down, or walked away from. This is a full day on how — and on what to do in the small number of cases where none of that works. Built from operational experience in high-risk environments and taught for students living independently in a UK city.

What it covers

Reading and avoiding

Comply, Escape, Respond — the framework and the order it runs in

⮞ Pre-incident indicators — seeing a situation develop before it arrives

⮞ Positioning, exits, and moving with purpose

Talking it down

Verbal de-escalation — what to say and what never to say

⮞ Non-verbal signals — posture, distance, eye contact

⮞ Holding a boundary — saying no clearly and early

⮞ Responding to unwanted attention and harassment in the moment

⮞ Getting away cleanly without making it worse

If it becomes physical

Breaking free from grabs, holds and restraints

⮞ Creating distance and disengaging

⮞ Protecting your head and staying on your feet

⮞ Using your voice to attract help and break freeze

⮞ Helping a friend safely

⮞ Reasonable force — what UK law allows and what it does not

Putting it together

Extended scenario practice with decision debriefs after each

One day · maximum 16 students · delivered at the institution or a hired venue · two facilitators · certificate on completion

What it delivers

Physical skills are delivered by a specialist instructor with a professional background in self-protection instruction, alongside a Bearing facilitator. All instructors hold an Enhanced DBS with children's barred list and Level 2 Safeguarding Children and Adults.
